In sports, we see something new all the time. The strategy that the Minnesota wild used in overtime, no one expected. While tied with the Nashville Predators in overtime 3-3, the Minnesota Wild pulled their goalie. Seconds later Matt Boldy scored his 24th goal of the season to win the game in overtime 4-3.

THE WILD PULLED THE GOALIE IN OT AND WON ON THE MAN ADVANTAGE!🤯

Even with this win, the Minnesota Wild, are still 6 points back of the final wild card spot, so some may say it is worth the risk to get the 2nd point. Here is the issue with that, per rule 84.2 of the NHL, if a team pulls their goalie in the overtime period, they forfeit the automatic point gained for ending regulation in a tie if they lose while the net is empty.

If the Nashville Predators, would have scored in the empty net in overtime, the Minnesota Wild would have ended the game with zero point added to the standings. Desperate times called for the desperate measures for the Minnesota Wild and it paid off.
