The Philadelphia Flyers just recently signed goaltender Ivan Fedotov to a 2 year extension. This was not a surprise to most when he was signed, however what most people were surprised at, was how much money Ivan Fedotov will receive during his 2-year contract. The Flyers signed Ivan Fedotov to a two year, $6.5 million dollar deal, which will be $3.25 million for each year.

Per, Anthony DiMarco, the reason why the salary is so high is because that was the contract that they agreed upon, prior to Ivan Fedotov coming over to North America. Basically, Ivan Fedotov was going to make this money in the KHL, so for him to come to North America, he had to make similar money.
Clearly, it would have been more beneficial to sign Ivan Fedotov to a lower average annual value, as he is an unproven NHL goaltender, however, the Flyers did not have much of a choice. Nonetheless, he was very successful in Russia as he has a .921 save percentage in the KHL. If Ivan Fedotov, can come close to the goaltender that he was in Russia, that will help not only Sam Ersson, as he will not be overplayed, but he could help the Flyers make the postseason for the first time in 5 seasons.
Flyers extend Fedotov to begin off-season
