Every year in America, the third Monday in February is recognized as "presidents day". Presidents day in 2024 turned out to be an exciting day for NHL fans as ten NHL games hit the airwaves, including some primetime matinees on ESPN such as the Detroit Red Wings traveling to Seattle to take on the Kraken. Not only did NHL fans have ten games to watch, but there was some historic scoring around the NHL on Monday.

Monday featured four hat tricks around the NHL, including two by the same team as Kirill Kaprizov and Joel Eriksson Ek both netted hat tricks for the Minnesota Wild in an offensive shootout against the Canucks that featured 17 combined goals.

One impressive feat on Monday came by Sean Monahan of the Winnipeg Jets who scored a natural hat trick in the first period. A natural hat trick is when a player scores three straight goals, uninterrupted by any other player scoring for either team.

On top of Erikkson Ek, Kaprizov, and Monahan, JT Miller netted himself a hat trick as well, which seemed to be forgotten by the 17 goal affair by Minnesot and Vancouver.

Despite four players netting hat tricks, it somehow was not an NHL record for hat tricks in a day as the current record in the NHL on one day is seven, which was done on Jan. 18, 1984.

In a day where so many uncertain things happened in hockey, one thing was for certain; thousands of fans lost some hats.
