Flyers' brain trust was not consulted by CEO before Fletcher's firing.

Over the years, the Flyers have been one NHL organization that has always kept their former general managers in their brain trust. Former general managers Bob Clark, Paul Holmgren and former Head coach Bill Barber have all remained with the organization at the executive level and have offered their advice and decision-making to steer this team through the years.

According to Marcus Hayes of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Comcast CEO Dave Scott did not consult with the three men over the decision to fire now-former general manager Chuck Fletcher and hire Daniel Briere as interim general manager.

according to Hayes, this decision would not be approved by the brain trust which is why he didn't ask in the first place. As CEO of Comcast which happened to be the owner of the Flyers, I doubt he and his shareholders felt they needed to ask.

Hayes also made a statement that Briere himself was considered an interloper within the brain trust even though he was the assistant to the general manager and working with Fletcher for over a year.

It certainly sounds like the brain trust is nervous as their opinions are becoming irrelevant and that even their jobs may be on the line as the
Flyers continue this realignment of their management core.

It will certainly get very interesting whenever they decide to hire their next president of hockey operations. I feel the Flyers will go in a different direction and hire a person not of the Flyers organization from the past.

This team needs to move on from this failure model and move into the new era of the 21st-century NHL.
